When your wife is a vegan and you aren’t, it can at times be really frustrating when you can’t find anywhere to eat together. Dining onboard a ship used to be one such situation that proved very testing but in recent years, the cruise lines have become more and more aware of people’s dietary requirements and we have found on some of our cruises in the last few years that there is actually a vegan menu, and that is great news because we can now both enjoy eating together in the MDR.
What would be really great is for the speciality restaurants to fall into line as well! We live in hope.
So, because of this, I have decided to share some information about our exploits and here you will find links to some of our vegan experiences while onboard one or two of the ships we have sailed on. This list will hopefully grow as and when we find more information that is worthy of sharing.
2024 – Vegan Options on Celebrity Solstice, Singapore to Hong Kong 15-27 Jan
After a break of 6 years, we found ourselves back on a Celebrity ship and were keen to find out how the vegan dining options had developed. As is with our normal procedure on embarkation day, we had lunch in the Oceanview Café and were […]
2023 - Vegan Options on Norwegian Jade 17-26 Apr
We booked a cruise on Norwegian Jade and after reading from a couple of online blogs we were confident that it would be possible to eat vegan onboard their fleet of ships. There can often be a big difference between what is being claimed to what you experience in real life and on this occasion, […]
2022 – Vegan Options on Costa Firenze, 16-23 Jul
This was our second sailing on Costa Firenze in 2022 and this time there are a lot more pictures and menus. The experience was much the same as January except for the more relaxed Covid rules which have impacted passenger numbers. We ate in the main dining room every evening and for Nicole the options […]
2022 – Vegan Options on Costa Firenze, 15-22 Jan
This is only a partial review and covers a cruise while Covid restrictions were in place but even so, should provide some ideas about eating vegan on Costa Firenze. The buffet was pretty much no go for breakfast so we ended up going to the MDR and using their area for special dietary requirements. During […]
2021 – Vegan Options on Regal Princess, 4 Night Taster 30 Sep-3 Oct
We took a 4-night cruise with friends from Southampton to Rotterdam in the autumn of 2021, prior research had not thrown up any vegan options in the MDR but to our surprise, on the second night, a vegan menu appeared. […]
2021 – Vegan Options on Anthem of the Seas, British Isles 19-26 Sep
We booked this cruise on Anthem of the Seas having read about Royal Caribbean Cruises' vegan-friendly approach onboard their fleet of ships. There can often be a big difference between what is being claimed to what you experience in real life […]
2021 – Vegan Options on Scarlet Lady, Long Weekender 6-9 Aug
In 2021 we took a 3-night cruise on Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady, the vegan-friendly claims by the cruise line were what initially drew our attention to this cruise and the following information is our own personal experience of what we found. Please also take into consideration that this was the first time Scarlet Lady had […]
2018 – Vegan Options on Costa Mediterranea, 3 nighter 24-27 Oct
Our very first encounter with a proper vegan menu in the MDR was on the Costa Mediterranea in 2018. We had gone away for a 3-night cruise with friends and Nicole had decided to try and wing it in the MDR and just speak to the Maitre D and take whatever was available. Can you […]
